Memory Care Pricing & Costs

Thank you for considering The Cordwainer for your family. Understanding the cost of memory care is an important step in making the right choice. Below, we’ve outlined what’s included in our monthly fees, how memory care costs work on the South Shore, and the payment options families commonly use.

What Determines Memory Care Costs

Memory care pricing in the South Shore Boston area typically reflects three factors:

  • Level of care: As dementia progresses, care needs change. Some communities charge in tiers for additional assistance with medications, bathing, mobility, and medical monitoring.
  • Suite type: Private suites, shared suites, and suites with specific amenities (views, additional space) are priced differently.
  • Community type: Purpose-built memory care communities like The Cordwainer are designed from the ground up for dementia care. This is different from assisted living communities that add a “memory care wing.”

What’s Included at The Cordwainer

The Cordwainer’s monthly fees combine the resident’s apartment with a comprehensive package of services and support tailored to each resident’s individualized needs.
The Monthly Apartment Fees includes the resident’s private or semi-private suite.
The Monthly Resident Services Fees includes up to three (3) hours per day of individualized supportive services, as identified in the resident’s Service Plan, as well as:

  • Three chef-prepared meals daily, plus snacks and beverages
  • 24/7 care staff trained in dementia and memory support
  • The Learned Environment℠ — our signature therapeutic programming
  • SAMM medication management
  • Personal care and assistance with activities of daily living
  • Housekeeping and laundry services
  • Wellness monitoring and care coordination
  • Access to community spaces, gardens, activities, and programming
  • Transportation for medical appointments

Residents who require more than three (3) hours per day of individualized supportive services may receive Enhanced Care for an additional monthly fees. LMA medication management is also available for an additional monthly fees.

Payment Options

Most families use a combination of the following to fund memory care:

  • Long-Term Care Insurance: Many families have policies that cover a significant portion of memory care costs. We can help verify coverage.
  • Veterans Benefits: The VA’s Aid & Attendance benefit can provide up to $2,900+/month for qualifying veterans and surviving spouses.
  • Private Pay: Retirement income, Social Security, pensions, savings, or proceeds from the sale of a home.
  • Life Insurance Conversion: Some families convert a life insurance policy into long-term care payments.
  • Reverse Mortgage: For families still holding a primary residence.
