The Cordwainer Earns National Award for Community Design

NORWELL – The Cordwainer, a premier Memory Care Assisted Living community, has been distinguished with the esteemed Senior Housing News Awards’ Stand-Alone Memory Care category award. This accolade marks the culmination of a year replete with recognition for the community’s groundbreaking design and its unwavering commitment to exceptional dementia care.

The Senior Housing News Awards are a prestigious platform that recognizes and honors the innovative, excellent, and noteworthy achievements within the senior living sector. The Stand-Alone Memory Care category is particularly focused on newly developed memory care projects, highlighting those that demonstrate a unique commitment and groundbreaking advancements in this specialized area. The nomination for The Cordwainer in this category was made by The Architectural Team (TAT), based in Chelsea, Mass. TAT was responsible for the comprehensive architectural and interior design services for Anthemion Senior Lifestyles.

Tamilyn Liesenfeld, Co-Founder of Anthemion Senior Lifestyles, shared her deep appreciation for this honor: “This award is a profound affirmation of the vision, ingenuity, and tireless efforts of the team behind The Cordwainer. It reinforces our ongoing dedication to developing and implementing cutting-edge approaches in dementia care, ensuring that our residents with dementia reside in an environment that is conducive to their well-being and engagement.”

The Cordwainer distinguishes itself through its innovative design and programming, which are specifically tailored to significantly enhance the well-being of its residents. The Cordwainer’s The Learned Environmentsm curriculum places a strong emphasis on music, art and foreign language exploration. The architectural design incorporates elements of biophilia, fostering a deep connection between the residents and the natural world. Notable features of the building include a two-story atrium with a living wall, an emphasis on natural lighting, an indoor sensory garden, and an expansive common area space that is 40 percent larger than industry standards, providing residents ample space for relaxation, movement, and engagement in community activities.

In addition to The Senior Housing News award, The Cordwainer was the recipient of multiple accolades in 2023, including being recognized as a “Top Workplace” by The Boston Globe, selection as “Business of the Year” by the Norwell Chamber of Commerce, and earning the “Star of Excellence” designation by South Shore Magazine.  These honors collectively underscore The Cordwainer’s status as a leader and innovator in the field of senior living and dementia care.
