Want to make a difference in someone’s life?
Volunteer with seniors!
The Cordwainer offers a range of volunteer opportunities near Boston and the South Shore area. Our life-enhancing programs depend on volunteers and their generous donations of time, making real differences in older adults’ lives. We welcome all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, individually and in groups.
How to volunteer with seniors
Complete the form below. Our Program Director will follow up to help you find the right fit for your interests, talents, and schedule. All volunteers receive training, which includes an overview of resident rights, emergency procedures, and the dos and don’ts of working with older adults. They also receive orientation to The Cordwainer and training related to each specific volunteer position. Do you already have experience with Boston volunteer opportunities? Our community can’t wait to meet you!
Some of the roles our volunteers enjoy include:
- Visiting one-on-one with residents—you can play games, do art projects, listen to music, walk outside, or just sit quietly together
- Lead or assist with small group activities, including music, art, reading stories aloud, and holiday celebrations
- Musical instrument player (monthly/bi-monthly)
- Music school/dance school bringing students for concerts/dance shows
- Knitters/crocheters
- Interns are welcome
